Great College Lacrosse Programs

Loyola’s record-winning men’s and women’s lacrosse teams now compete in the Patriot League–previously the men were in the ECAC Lacrosse League and the women in the Big East Conference. Of the 17 varsity teams and 22 club teams at Loyola, the lacrosse teams are particularly noteworthy. With players like Sean Hecker leading the Greyhounds, both the men’s and women’s teams have enjoyed high rankings over the past several years. Additionally, both have appeared in numerous NCAA tournaments and the men’s lacrosse team won the NCAA Division I National Championship in 2012. Drexel University Home to some national titles, the Drexel athletic teams are high-ranking and high-intensity. Besides the notable soccer team and women’s basketball–both of which deserve some recognition for recent achievements–the lacrosse teams are up-and-coming, thanks to men’s head coach Brian Voelker. In 2007, Drexel lacrosse defeated University of Virginia, which was the defending National Champion at the time. In 2010, they reached their highest ever ranking at number 7 in the nation after beating Notre Dame. In 2014, Drexel scored in the third overtime as the Dragons came from behind to defeat Hofstra 11-10, to win its first Colonial Athletic Association championship and earn their first ever NCAA tournament berth. This upward trend shows their strong commitment. University of Maryland Baltimore County The NCAA D1 team has featured icons Drew Westervelt and Brendan Mundorf. The Retrievers have made their way up since the early 2000s, becoming East America Champions in 2006, 2008 and 2009. Montana is one of the fourth largest states in the United States with more than 100 mountains making up the states landscape. The unique topography of Montana makes it a ski and ranch lover’s dream come true. If you are a huge skier then the mountains of Montana are for you. The Red Lodge International Summer Racing Camp, which is located near Red Lodge, Montana, offers race instructions/ opportunities in the summertime to high school, college and national team skiers. The camp takes place 23 miles Southwest of Red Lodge, Montana right near the Beartooth pass. The Beartooth Peak got its name from the jagged peak, which is found at the top of the mountain range and has been known to look like a bear’s tooth. Whether you are already a pro skier or are still getting used to the sport, the Red Lodge International Summer Racing Camp has the right fit for you. The camp was originally started in mid-1960 by Austrians and has expanded today to become one of the oldest training camps in the United States. When Turnberry Associates’ Jeffrey Soffer and his sister Jackie Soffer, of Miami, Florida, presented plans for refreshing Turnberry Isle Miami, he thought outside the box. More precisely, Soffer also looked outside just the resort’s rooms, restaurants and meeting facilities to enhance Turnberry Isles’ two championship golf courses. Originally designed by golfing legend Robert Trent Jones, Sr., The Soffer and Miller Courses were re interpreted by Raymond Floyd. The results have been nothing short of magnificent. A par 71, 4,971-7,047 yard masterpiece, The Soffer Course is home to LPGA and PGA events. Its par five 18th hole features a challenging island green that’s just feet away from a magnificent 64-foot waterfall, making it one of the more legendary finishing holes any golfer could hope to play. The Miller Course is a par 70, 4,343-6,417 yard strategic gem with rolling fairways framed by mature ficus, banyan and olive trees. A shot-maker’s layout, it requires solid drives and pinpoint iron play. Golf at Turnberry Isle Miami also features a practice area with a double-ended driving range, target and putting greens, course-grade bunkers, and chipping and pitching areas that almost seem to be a separate course.
